Fixtures Report: Winter 2022/23 week 9

12/5/2022

International Rules

Silktown Snooker A made it a full sweep of victories over all teams in the International Rules A League as we reach the mid-season turnaround. Continuing their dominant start to the league Silktown snooker A thrashed Sunderland Street Sporting Club (SSSC) D 11-0, to move 29 points clear at the top of the table.

Weaver B move into 2nd place despite a 6-5 defeat to SSSC A, which featured two of this week's 8 ball clearances. The first from in the form Roy Whyatt in the opening frame, followed by another in the scotch pairs, again by Roy alongside pairs partner Shaun Sweetmore. This moves Roy to second place in the 8 ball competition behind the Silktown trio of Rick Podmore, Andrew McKie and Adam Stevens all tied on 3.

Nags Head A retain top spot in the B league with an 8-3 home win over St Dunstan, but only 7 points separate them from a chasing pack of George & Dragon D, Silktown Snooker E and Silktown Snooker C.

In the International rules C League, a decisive 9-2 victory from leaders George & Dragon A sees Spinners Arms A drop from 2nd to 3rd. Whilst the Lord Byron A follow them step for step with a 9-2 win of their own over the Bruce Arms A.

Macc Rules

The Ivy Leaf A clinched a crucial 4-3 win over challengers Flower Pot B, as John Shuker won the match for his team in a final frame decider against Adam Jones, who was unbeaten in 8 matches up until that point. Adam still jointly leads the merit competition with Men’s Individuals finalist Mark Hughes of Silk Trader B.

In the B League it was another night for Silktown Snooker to show their class, as they completed a 5-2 win over Plough B, including two 8 ball clearances. The first from Ernie Stewart and the second from this year’s Men’s Individuals champion Rick Podmore. They will be tough to catch as they take a 13 point lead into the 2nd half of the season.

A much tighter affair in the C League, with only 3 points separating Bruce Arms A and Brewers C, who face each other in what could be a decisive match on 15th December in the final game before the Christmas break.
In the D League Weaver A pull 5 points clear in front of Lord Byron X, beating them 4-3 away last week.
