Fixtures Report: Winter 2022/23 week 7

11/21/2022

Another dominant performance from Silktown Town A further extends their lead to 21 points at the top of the International Rules A league. They started strong, taking the first 5 frames of their away tie against Sunderland Street Sporting Club (SSSC) F. Jim Neal and David Jackson won the scotch pairs for the home side, but the leaders pushed on to round out an 8-3 victory, with Andrew McKie making his 3rd 8 ball clearance of the season for another bonus point.

The two Weaver teams are the nearest chasers, and it was Weaver C who came away with bragging rights in the derby, beating Weaver B 6-5, to bring them joint on points in the league. Weaver B captain Carl Meehan said after the match “Well played tonight, you edged the win, could have been 6-5 either way but that's pool, deserved win.” With Weaver C captain Paul Bradbury agreeing “Cheers, it was a close one. Could have gone to either team!”

It was all change at the top in 4 of the other 6 leagues. Nags Head A reclaiming the top spot in the International Rules B league with a 8-3 win over the Ivy Leaf C, as previous leaders Silktown Snooker C were overpowered 9-2 by George & Dragon D which now leaps them up to 2nd.

In the Macclesfield Rules league, Pack Horse A’s unbeaten run was finally ended as they travelled away to play Railway View A. Having been 2-1 up at one point, Railway View A took the final 4 frames for a 5-2 win. Meanwhile Ivy Leaf A beat Silk Trader B 6-1 to see them move to the top, 1 point clear of Flower Pot B who suffered a 4-3 defeat to Dolphin who win just their 2nd game of the season.

Silktown Snooker push on the B league with a 7-0 whitewash of Chester Road Tavern, while  Bruce Arms A slip to 2nd in the C league with a bye this week, allowing rivals Brewers C to move to the top with a 4-3 away win against Silk Trader A. In the D league Weaver A thump Flower Pot B H/Rd. 5-2 to put them in 1st by 2 points.
