Fixtures Report: Winter 2022/23 week 5

11/7/2022

Normal service was resumed for A League leaders Silktown Snooker A this week, beating SSSC E 7-4 away. After defeat in the Super Cup last week against Flower Pot A, their unbeaten start to the season was broken, but they’ve quickly reasserted themselves in the league and remain the team to beat. Another 2 bonus points with 8 ball clearances from Adam Stevens and Andrew McKie further extend their lead at the top to 5 points.

Hot on their heels is Weaver B who recorded an 8-3 home victory against SSSC D. They continue their unbeaten start to the season too and are the only other team within reach of the leaders. This sets things up beautifully for this week’s match, with Weaver B travelling to Silktown Snooker A in what already feels like a crucial match in the title race.

Similarly in the International Rules B League, another top of the table clash as unbeaten league leaders Nags Head A play host to 2nd place Silktown Snooker C. A much tighter division here with only 3 points separating them.

The Macclesfield Rules A League continues to be fiercely contested with only 2 points separating the top 3 teams. Pack Horse A narrow the gap with a 5-2 away win against the Weaver Z, as both Flower Pot B and Ivy Leaf A win 4-3 against Nags Head A and Three Crowns respectively. There will be added significance to the Weston derby between Ivy Leaf A and Pack Horse A this week, as one of them will end their undefeated start to the season.

Elsewhere in leagues in the leagues the standout performance came from Lee Holmes, moonlighting from his usual International Rules Weaver B team to help out friends at the Pack Horse B who were short of players on the night. At 3-2 down, back-to-back 8 ball clearances in the pairs and singles brought home the win and 2 bonus points.

Finally, the Macclesfield Pool League showed their support of member Craig Williams who was knocked down on his way home from the Broken Cross Club after his match last week. £125 was donated from the Captain’s Meeting cash draws to help support Craig and his partner, and the whole league send their best wishes for his recovery. Further fundraising and donations to be made to made online in the coming weeks.
