Fixtures Report: Winter 2022/23 week 10

12/12/2022

International Rules

Flower Pot A took Silktown Snooker A all the way to a deciding frame, but Andrew McKie was able to secure the win for champions and maintain their unbeaten run this season with a 6-5 win away from home.

This now puts them 32 points ahead in the league table, the next nearest rivals SSSC E moving up to 2nd this week as they beat Weaver B 8-3 at home, which leaves Weaver B tied with their stablemates Weaver C on 57 points.

Roy Whyatt continued his impressive form in SSSC A’s derby against SSSC F, opening the scoreline with an 8 ball clearance. This not only moves him to jointly lead the 8 Ball Clearance competition alongside the Silktown trio of Rick Podmore, Andrew McKie and Adam Stevens, but is also his 5th 8 ball clearance in 5 weeks - including 2 made during the scotch pairs matches which, unfortunately for Roy, don’t count towards the individual trophy.

All change at the top once again in the B League; Silktown Snooker C reclaim the top spot with a 10-1 victory over Ivy Leaf C who are still in search of their first win of the season. While previous leaders Nags Head A lost 6-5 at home to Silktown Snooker E, with captain Nicky Oakes securing the 3 points in a final frame decider for her Silktown squad.

In the C League, Spinners Arms A look to push George & Dragon A all the way, as they both secure 12 points with 10-1 wins against Brewers A and Lord Byron A respectively. And the Silk Trader A painting of Ash Rigby and Andy Snelson record the third scotch pairs 8 ball clearance of the season, and move their team to 3rd place in the league.

8 BALL CLEARANCES
Roy Whyatt (SSSC A)
Ash Rigby & Andy Snelson (Silk Trader A)
Paul Barton (George & Dragon D)

Macc Rules

Tight scorelines seemed to be the order of the day in A League last week, with 4 of the 5 matches ending 4-3, so no movement in the top 3 of the table. Ivy Leaf A remain in first, but may be disappointed not to come away with more with a home advantage against bottom placed Dolphin.

Flower Pot B are still second after captain Dave Leishman was able to hold his nerve in the final frame decider against Railway View A’s Simon Rowland. Rounding off the top three, the Three Crowns remain in third place despite an upset against Nags Head A, who having not won a match all season are now unbeaten in the past 2.

Silktown Snooker continue their promotion bid in the B League with a 4-3 against Bollington’s Spinners Arms, but this week will come up against 2nd place George & Dragon C.

It was anything you can do, I can also do in the C League as the Brewers C and Bruce Arms A both won their matches 5-2 to maintain the 3 point gap between them in the league. It will be a crucial match when they face each other this week with home advantage to the Brewers.

In the D League Queens X picked up top points with a 7-0 away win against the Lord  Byron X, catapulting them into 2nd place in the league. Weaver A will be tough to catch, winning 6-1 against Ivy Leaf B and still have a 7 point advantage in the league.
