Pool Scene with Irene Green: Knockout Cup Finals

9/23/2022

International rules:
Flowerpot C/Rd 6-4 SSSC A

Picture
It was closely contested and looked at 4-4 like it was going to go all the way to a deciding frame until Adam & Reedy won their games to take the title.

Rather than report on the way each game was won or lost as a lot of people watched the match either at the venue or on the YouTube live stream, I thought I'd write in a light-hearted way about the two teams players!

The Flowerpot have been referred to as the Congleton lot but in fact only two of their number actually live there. Rob Oliver and Ryan Cox who are normally heard before seen but were generally on their best behaviour last night!

The quiet two namely Captain Lee Rollinson and James 'Bradders' Braddock both perfect gentlemen in my humble opinion.

James Reid (Reedy) who coined the phrase 'he's done a Reedy'! Well we've all snookered ourselves on our balls after a pot at some time or another!

Adam Jones the multi rule playing member who plays all three rule sets even in the same week!

Finally super sub Sean Clarke whom I've personally known for years since we played in the Snooker league for a well known paper mill in Bollington and doesn't look any different with age!

Next the Sunderland Street Snooker Club A's. The team mainly consists of three married couples :
The Mitchell's Captain and multi talented Jane who plays local, County, Interleague, Ultimate and has even played International level pool and Charlie the Interleagues' Macc A' Captain.

The Sweetmore's Amanda who everyone knows and loves. I don't think there's a trophy she has played in and not won at sometime!? And her loving hubby Shaun who is a gentle quiet man face to face but a completely different person on social media

The Whyatt's Donna who can be fiery if crossed and the silky Roy who can make any shot look easy on a regular basis.

Last but no means least Barrie Lunn who has promised me his 'Del Boy' mobile phone is soon to be upgraded so he can look at Facebook and read my report!

It would be remiss of me not to mention their mascot Miss Annie Mitchell who is always present and let's mum and dad know if they play a bad shot!

Finally a few thank yous to our Chairman and official referee Lee Holmes who didn't start well not having brought a match card and so had to draw one up on a piece of paper but officiated perfectly!

Our host for the evening landlord Gary and his team who not only provided the venue The Weaver bar and restaurant but the live stream feed (after a few teething problems) which I have no doubt will be completely resolved in time for the start of the Winter League and the fabulous food for players and spectators at the end of the night

Thanks to Barrie's missus Margaret who made sure I got home with a lift. Finally to Lees team mate Jon Sellars who in the last practice game before the match started got the biggest cheer of the night when he 8 balled Lee.

Macc Rules - Sam Cooke Memorial:
Nags Head 4-1 Queens B

Played the week prior at the Sunderland Street Sporting Club, and live streamed to the MPL's Facebook page this was a thrilling match. Nags Head A played some of their best pool of the season to topple A League winner Queens A.

Macc Rules - Alf Wood Memorial:
Flowerpot X C/Rd. 4-0 Old Millstone A

The Flowerpot men, with a speedy victory, celebrate  getting their hands on the trophy, after narrowly missing out on the C League runners up by only 4 points.
